Shakara is a contemporary West African restaurant, cocktail bar, and live music venue located on Baker Street in Marylebone, London, celebrated as one of the Best New Restaurants of 2025 at the British Restaurant Awards. Rooted in the rich culinary traditions of Nigeria, Ghana, and The Gambia and paired with sophisticated mixology, the concept was to create an immersive experience that appeals to all the senses.
The brand identity draws inspiration from the western sub-Saharan talking drums, an iconic instrument historically used to mimic human speech rhythms and central to many live music traditions. This cultural reference informed the design of the logo and stamp-like icon, symbolising premium quality, authentic heritage, and rhythmic connection between food, music, and atmosphere.
The talking drum motif is elegantly rendered in a wax-seal-inspired graphic, reinforcing the sense of exclusivity and craftsmanship that defines the restaurant’s presence. This symbol acts as a visual anchor across menus, signage, and print materials, linking Shakara’s culinary and cultural narrative.
More than just a place to eat, Shakara blends high-end West African cuisine with live performances from Afrohouse, Afrobeats, and house music artists, creating a dynamic, soulful destination. The brand captures this fusion of taste, rhythm, and refined design, positioning the venue as a standout cultural experience in London’s dining scene.
